I’m always going to support a woman doing something positive (especially a sista) so I was more than willing to do a post on the multi-talented Cocoa Bella and expose her music and talents to my readers!
The downtown NYC scene is well aware of Cocoa Bella and her many talents. NOW it’s time for YOU to find out what all the buzz is about…. C-B is a self-proclaimed “triple threat” which has widely been proven via her photography, media and music skills. Owner of popular blog COOL CRUEL WORLD, and photography start-up company HAUTE FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY, C-B holds her own in several different realms of the industry. C-B emulates the style, creativity and elegance of a Grace Jones, with the tough-girl swagger of Kelis, Gwen Stefani and Missy Elliot.
“Music is my therapy, and I like to have a lot of fun with my music. I’m not trying to target a particular race, or gender. I believe my music can be relatable to all sorts of people from all sorts of backgrounds, and that’s what makes it beautiful and powerful”, says Cocoa. Her journey with music started years ago when she had a chance meeting with an A+R at Star Trak. Though promising, that didn’t work out when they dis-banded from Arista, CB continued to work in the industry as a journalist penning stories for the likes of: EBONY MAGAZINE, DON DIVA MAGAZINE, J-RECORDS and more. She grew her brand as a blogger, photographer, NYC personality, and fashion-maven. She was shooting the likes of fashion week, and mega-stars like Mary J. Blige. That journey led her to create her own media outlet, with a full staff. Last January, after a lot of encouragement from her peers, she decided to give music another shot….
Cocoa is a singer/song-writer + emcee hailing from New York City. Born in Harlem, she carries the sensibility of a chic, sophisticated, not-to-be-messed-with city girl in her music. Her influences include : Pharrell Williams, Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, Kelis, Nelly Furtado, Missy Elliot and Gwen Stefani. Last May, Cocoa Bella dropped her anticipated mixtape “TRIPLE THREAT TRAGEDY”. This past Christmas, she re-released the project with new tracks titled “T3: RELOADED”. Her work has been praised by the likes of legendary female rapper BAHAMADIA, rap duo THE CLIPSE, the legendary SPINDERELLA, rap-vet LIL’ CEASE, and many more. Her sound is retro with a fresh take; an alternative sound that is relatable but different!
